Mission
The mission of this JCPS school library media center is to impact student learning by using the media center to teach information literacy skills, promote reading, and help teachers teach.
Student Checkout/ Circulation Students:
Students may check out after a signed permission form has been received by the library. Check out occurs primarily during a student’s regularly scheduled library time. Students may also check out at other times if the need arises. Students in Kindergarten-3rd grade are permitted to check out one book at a time. Students in 4th-5th grades are permitted to check out two books at a time. Books should be returned after one week. Any lost or damaged books must be paid for.
Faculty Checkout/Circulation:
Teachers may check out books and keep them up to 90 days. Videos may be checked out and kept for two days.
Box Tops for Education:
The Layne Library collects Box Tops for Education. Send them in anytime!
Book Fairs:
Each school year, the Layne Library sponsors three book fairs: one in September, one in March, and one in May. The library is also part of literacy events held at Layne such as the Grandparents Breakfast and Doughnuts with Dads.
Authur Visits:
Each year our library sponsors an author or illustrator visit. Authors K. Melissa Burton, Tim Smith (Buck Wilder), and Sharon Burch have been to Layne to share their craft with our students. Most recently, illustrator Michael P. White came to Layne to share his airbrush technique for creating illustrations for books like The Library Dragon and The Secret of Old Zeb.
Summer Reading at LFPL:
Students are encouraged to participate in the Louisville Free Public Library's Summer Reading Program each year.
